KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The State Legislature is considering a bill that would let public schools skip mandated standardized testing of their students this year.
Many local school officials are urging support for the bill, including Kalamazoo Public Schools Superintendent Rita Raichouduri. She says has already sent a letter supporting the legislation.
“Our kids deserve that. It would be unfair to evaluate them using standardized measures as if it was any other normal year.” – Dr. Rita
If the annual tests are not administered, state funding could be withheld. The legislation would waive that stipulation.
Hearings on the proposal begin Tuesday.
