KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) is urging business owners to lock and secure commercial properties and construction sites heading into the long holiday weekend. The request comes following recent break-ins targeting commercial properties, construction sites, trailers and out-buildings.
“We are urging all commercial property owners to remain vigilant and ensure their properties, construction sites and equipment are safe and secure going into the long holiday weekend,” KDPS Assistant Chief Dave Boysen said in a statement. “In recent weeks, there has been an increase in break-ins targeting commercial properties, construction sites, work trailers and out-buildings in our community. These thefts have occurred during the early morning hours. It’s critical to remain mindful of suspicious activity and unfamiliar vehicles spending a lot of time near your business, and make sure all valuables are locked and securely stored.”
There were recently break-ins at commercial properties in the 600 block of E. Vine Street, and the 1500 block of Fulford Street.
In both cases, trailers containing tools and other materials were stolen.
KDPS is actively investigating the incidents and seeking assistance from the community to help identify the culprits.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents or the vehicles in the included photos that were involved is asked to contact KDPS at 269-488-8911 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
