BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – COVID-19 vaccinations begin today at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Battle Creek, one of 113 VA medicals centers across the United States selected to receive the first limited supply of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
Veterans Affairs officials say sites were identified based on need for the vaccine according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 1A prioritization, which includes healthcare workers, and capacity to store the vaccine at -20 degrees Celsius.
Battle Creek VA Medical Center Director Michelle Martin told WWMT-TV, “Receiving the vaccine is like having hope delivered. As vaccine supplies increase, our ultimate goal is to offer COVID-19 vaccination to all veterans and employees who want to be vaccinated.”
The Moderna vaccine is administered in two doses, 28 days apart.
As vaccines become available for more groups of veterans, VA care teams plan to reach out to eligible veterans to schedule vaccinations.
