ALBION, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 22-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday in Albion during what police described as a domestic confrontation.
Albion Director of Public Safety Scott Kipp says it appears the man was attempting to kick in the door of his former girlfriend’s apartment and was shot by another man already inside.
The Battle Creek Enquirer says officers were first called about 8:10 a.m. to an apartment in the 100 block of West Porter Street for a man attempting to kick open the apartment door, Kipp said.
When officers arrived, the man was gone and they left. But within 30 minutes the man returned and Kipp said the preliminary investigation shows he had a gun but did not fire a shot.
Police believe a 24-year-old man in the apartment also was armed and and shot the intruder. He also accidentally shot and injured the woman.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment and officers are interviewing the suspect in the shooting.
The investigation is continuing. No arrests have yet been made.
