MARSHALL, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Calhoun County Public health Department says they will receive its first shipment of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines as soon as this weekend. The vaccines are being shipped to health departments and hospitals around the country and state.
At the start, vaccine distribution will be limited to paid and unpaid persons working in healthcare settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials, and are unable to work from home, as well as residents and workers in long term care facilities.
Next in line will be essential workers. Those are the people who play a key role in keeping critical functions of society running and cannot socially distance in the workplace. The next phase includes high-risk adults, such as those with medical conditions that are risk factors for severe COVID-19 illness, and adults 65 years of age or older.
Those in the general public are expected to be vaccinated by the middle of 2021.
As of 11 a.m on Wednesday, Dec. 16, Calhoun County has a cumulative total of 6,407 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD), with a total of 150 deaths attributed to the virus.
Calhoun County’s Unified Command Team for COVID-19 response reminds residents to celebrate the winter holidays safely this year. To prevent further spread of the virus, the safest way to celebrate the holidays is to do so with the people who live with you. Consider celebrating virtually with family members who live far away.
