Road commission employee dies behind the wheel of heavy equipment he was operating

NEWTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Authorities say a Calhoun County Road Department employee apparently suffered a medical emergency and died behind the wheel of his grader Thursday morning.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene on Boyd Drive at 6 1/2 Mile Road in Newton Township, south of Battle Creek, around 7:40 a.m.

Deputies say they found a 60-year-old Marshall Township man dead inside the grader. While they believe he suffered a medical emergency, an autopsy will be performed.
