HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday that a suspect is in custody after a vehicle chase and a K9 track.
The department says the incident occurred Saturday around 5:30 p.m. in the 65000 Block of 56th Avenue of Hartford Township, when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. However, the driver sped off from the scene.
Police say the ensuing chase lasted several miles, ending when the vehicle drove into a plowed field. The driver then fled on food into a nearby wooded area.
Deputy Rowse and K9 Bruno were called in to assist in tracking the suspect. K9 Bruno then found the suspect about a half mile through the woods, who was laying on the ground attempting to hide.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and was lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on felony charges.
The suspect has been identified as a 19-year-old male from Bangor. His name is being withheld until arraignment has taken place.
