GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) – Distribution of the vaccine will be mainly by special trucks, but to get it to all areas of the country, Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids will be an important element in the effort.
The facility’s large runways can accommodate large planes, as well as having the storage capacity to take in and distribute the billions of doses that will be required.
Ford’s location is the closest to the Portage Pfizer facility, so travel time will be maximized.
Airport officials expect to begin sending out the vaccine via cargo planes on Sunday.
