LANSING, MI — Michigan’s three Class-A Midwest League baseball teams are included in the league’s move to High-A minor league baseball in 2021. The Lansing Lugnuts, Great Lakes Loons, and West Michigan Whitecaps all received word on Wednesday they were included in the restructuring of the minor league system.
Lansing is changing major league affiliations along with shifting to a higher level. The Oakland A’s will be the team’s major league partner beginning with the 2021 season. The team has been affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays the past few years.
The Lugnuts have played in downtown Lansing since 1996. The team and its stadium have been important parts of downtown Lansing’s revitalization.
Two Midwest League teams, Burlington and Clinton, are not making the move and are in the process of looking for new major league affiliations.
