BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN) – The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners have adopted the county’s 2021 budgets.
Administrator and Controller Kelli Scott said there were no changes from what was presented at the November 17 public hearing.
Scott said the County is not recommending increases in user fees pending the results of an independent cost study started this year and delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Outside of the voter approved 0.2 mills for countrywide parks enhancements, there were no recommended increases in millage rates.
Scott says this years budget planning process was the most challenging in a decade due to diminished local revenue sources and many unknowns about the upcoming year.
To balance the General Fund and Road Department budgets, Scott says many departments have agreed to keep recently vacated positions unfilled into the next year. That includes eight positions in the Sheriff’s Department, seven in the Road Department and six in the Courts.
No immediate layoffs were required within the budget process.
