LANSING, MI — U.S. District Judge Paul Maloney says both the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association and the Michigan Attorney General’s office need to submit more information before a ruling on the pause in dine-in business.
The judge heard from both sides in a Kalamazoo courtroom yesterday, with the MRLA’s attorney saying restaurants are close to a collapse and can’t survive an extended shutdown. The state counters that restaurants are four times riskier to catch COVID-19 than gyms and coffee shops, followed by hotels.
The latest orders from the Department of Health and Human Services expire December 8.
