MARSHALL, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With so many Christmas events cancelled this year, one tradition carried on, with a new twist.
The City of Marshall traditionally holds a huge Christmas parade along Michigan Avenue through the downtown, but Monday night instead held what they called a stationary parade at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds. Thousands drove through the fairgrounds to see the floats.
Cities like Kalamazoo had to cancel their annual parade and tree lighting ceremony this year.
Marshall Christmas Committee chair Matt Davis told WWMT-TV that instead of canceling the parade they chose to get creative. Davis said they had received some backlash for changing things up, but if altering the tradition kept people safe and the tradition alive then it was a no-brainer.
