PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Portage will hold its tree-lighting ceremony online this week.
This is being done to ensure the health and safety of area residents, according to a statement written on the official Facebook event page. The ceremony will be held during the December 1 Portage City Council meeting.
According to the event page, the ceremony will feature readings from the “I Love Portage” essay contest winners. There will also be a visit from Santa Claus featured, who will inform residents of locations within Portage that families can visit over the holiday season.
Locations of where to drop off letters to the North Pole will also be discussed. The ceremony will take place afterward.
Residents can view the meeting and ceremony at Spectrum channel 995, AT&T U-verse channel 99, or online at portagemi.viebit.com.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 1.
Additionally, the event page made note of self-guided tours that are available from December 1 through January 3 at Celery Flats Historical Area, located at 7335 Garden Lane, and Veteran’s Memorial Park at 399 Library Lane.
They will include the following attractions:
- Santa’s Lighted Sleigh
- Reindeer Lane
- Holiday Card &Tree Walk
- North Pole Trail
- North Pole Mailbox
- Light Display at Veteran’s Memorial Park
