Growing numbers of Americans are faced with food insecurity due to COVID-related financial challenges. Groups like the National Pork Producers Council are stepping up to address the issue. NPPC calls theirs the “Give-a-Ham’ campaign. Give-a-Ham is a nationwide social media effort encouraging hog farmers as well as those involved in the industry to donate pork to organizations that serve people that are food insecure and challenging others to follow suit. The campaign runs through the end of the year. Through October, hog farmers and the associations that represent them have donated 15.7 million pounds of pork to local food banks. The Give-a-Ham challenge – it’s about paying it forward with pork.
