BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A woman was killed and a man arrested following a suspected drunk driving crash in Battle Creek early Thursday.
Battle Creek police say the single-vehicle crash happened at 12:20 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Yuba Street. They say the driver, a 59-year-old man from Battle Creek, was northbound on Main Street and attempted a right turn on Yuba Street but lost control of his car. The vehicle hit a guy wire to a utility pole and rolled over.
The 59-year-old woman who was his passenger was severely injured and died at Bronson Battle Creek hospital. The man was not hurt.
Police said his preliminary blood alcohol level was .179 percent, over twice the legal limit in Michigan. The man was taken to the Calhoun County jail on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol causing death.
