VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Tuesday, the the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office announced that it has received $127,680 from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
“The office produced a list of much needed items, and when the CARES Act came out, we immediately began to secure funds to fill these needs,” officials said in a statement. “Our office worked closely with Ryan Post, Director of the Finance Department for the county, in securing these funds. This was huge not only for our office, but for the tax payers of the county.”
Officials say that because of these funds, no additional county tax payer dollars were used to purchase the equipment.
Those purchases include the following:
- two trailers,
- traffic cones,
- folding tables,
- chairs,
- generator, and
- an EZ up tent.
Officials say this equipment will be used for mobile drive up COVID-19 testing sites, future mobile vaccinations, and other similar programs.
The office also purchased updated in-car computers, as well as laptops for the Emergency Operation Center and the administration staff.
The computers purchased will be capable of remote work, as well as the ability to be sanitized.
