KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Safety says it will respond to reports and complaints that businesses and groups may be violating health department orders to fight COVID-19 for the next three weeks, but they hope they won’t need a heavy hand.
Mayor Dave Anderson announced at Monday night’s City Commission meeting that he recently discussed the issue with Chief Vern Coakley.
Anderson was told the department’s plan is to start with education and hope for compliance.
Anderson says they won’t be monitoring backyards or Thanksgiving get-togethers, but will be responding to larger gatherings, that health officials say could be “super-spreader” events.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’s emergency order took effect Wednesday at 12:01 a.m.
