KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Due to a recent increase of COVID-19 cases in Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo Public Library will be switching to curbside and online services only starting next week.
KPL closed its doors to the public starting on Saturday, November 14, as it is preparing to launch curbside services on Monday, November 23. Afterwards, KPL’s Central Location, Oshtemo, and Eastwood branches will begin providing curbside delivery service Monday through Friday from 1 – 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Washington Square and Alma Powell branches will remain closed to the public. Dropboxes for returns will remain open at all KPL locations except the Alma Powell Branch.
According to an official statement, the measure is being done to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Curbside services will allow library patrons to pick up materials using either a walk-up service or through vehicle drop-off. KPL stated that more information on what services will be included will be posted on its website sometime this week.
In the meantime, patrons are also encouraged to utilize KPL’s online services, including online library card sign-ups, as well as a large collection of eBooks, eVideos, and more.
KPL Card holders can also access digital services such as Lynda, which offers thousands of videos on professional development, skill building, and how-to instruction.
Officials also issued the following statement in their announcement:
“Please know KPL recognizes that temporarily stopping in-person library services will present a hardship to many. We appreciate your patience and willingness to adjust to the changes we are making to help keep our staff and patrons healthy. We look forward to returning to in-person library service as soon as it is safe to do so.”
All KPL service updates will be posted on our website kpl.gov and on social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
