KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County has been selected as one of the 12 hubs in the state of Michigan for COVID-19 vaccine storage and distribution.
County Health Officer Jim Rutherford says Kalamazoo has one of five county based regional laboratories, with several ultra-cold storage units that the vaccine requires.
Rutherford said the first batch of a COVID-19 vaccine could be available in late December.
Rutherford said it is still unclear how the product will be distributed. He said he expects to partner with both local hospital systems, Family Health Center, and Western Michigan University for distribution.
