CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is searching for suspects involved in a larceny and police pursuit that ended in a crash Tuesday night.
Around 9:13 p.m., deputies from the Pennfield Division were called to a business in the 1400 block of Capital Avenue NE for a larceny that had just occurred. The caller provided a vehicle description to dispatch.
A responding deputy observed a vehicle that matched the description leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The deputy tried to stop this vehicle, but the driver fled south on Raymond Road. The suspect vehicle then continued west on Golden Avenue at high speeds.
The pursuing deputy chose to terminate the pursuit when the vehicle started entering into a more populated area. However, within minutes of that decision, the Battle Creek City Police Department was dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash into a building in the 900 block of Capital Avenue SW.
This vehicle matched the description from the larceny and pursuit. The occupants had fled the scene, and witnesses provided conflicting information.
It was not specified how many suspects are involved in this case. It was later learned that the vehicle involved was previously reported stolen out of Battle Creek. This investigation is still ongoing.
