BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — UPDATE: Tuesday, WWMT reported that charges are now being filed against Henry Lewis Jones Jr. in connection to the death of a child.
Sgt. Joel Case told WWMT that the child’s death has been ruled a homicide following a preliminary autopsy.
Charges of open murder and first-degree child abuse were filed as of Tuesday with the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s office.
WWMT noted that Jones has still not been located at this time. Police were seeking him for questioning earlier this week before the autopsy results were finalized.
The case remains under investigation.

BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek Police are seeking information about the location of an 18-year-old man related to the death of an 18-month-old child.
According to officials, Police, the Battle Creek Fire Department, and Marshall Ambulance responded to a medical emergency call on Saturday for a young child. They tried to resuscitate the child, who was transported to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, but were ultimately unsuccessful.
Police say Henry Lewis Jones Jr. is the last known adult to see the child alive, and are looking to speak with him.
The child was left in Jones’ care at the child’s home in the 200 block of North McKinley Avenue. Jones is the current boyfriend of the child’s mother, who was at work when the incident occurred. While caring for the child, Jones took him to a relative’s home and requested they call 911. Jones then left the home and has not been seen since.
Police do not know what happened before Jones left the child at the relative’s home.
Autopsy results and the child’s cause of death are pending. Police continue to investigate and have no further information to release at this time.
