BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Battle Creek Unlimited is the new owner of the McCamly Plaza Hotel.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports Battle Creek Unlimited gained ownership of the hotel last Tuesday after a lengthy legal battle.
They plan to renovate and rebrand the property and hope to open the hotel in early 2022.
The 14 story hotel opened in the early 80’s as the Stouffer Hotel.
BCU filed a lawsuit last January against the former owners of the McCamley Plaza in Calhoun County Circuit Court after deadlines were missed in the rebranding of the hotel as a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
BCU lent $3.5 million out of its Direct Investment Fund to the former owners in 2018 for upgrades to the hotel.
Eventually there was a legal settlement but the terms were not made public.
The hotel was closed almost a year ago. The original plans called for the hotel to be closed six months for renovations so that it can be converted into a DoubleTree.
All 68 employees were given layoff notices.
