KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Monday, WWMT reported that the AMC Portage Street 10 in downtown Kalamazoo is officially closed as of Sunday, November 8.
The location, which is owned by EPR Properties, is one of six theaters to have been closed across the country. Vice President of Corporate Communications for AMC Ryan Noonan told WWMT that the closure is partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
WWMT provided Noonan’s full statement, which can be viewed below:
“AMC continues to have constructive discussions with our landlords as we work together to effectively manage through this COVID crisis. This includes reaching a global agreement with EPR Properties, one of our most prominent landlord partners, which was executed on July 1, 2020. In conjunction with that agreement, EPR made certain rent concessions in exchange for other rights, including its ability to terminate up to seven leases. In conjunction with this agreement, AMC has ceased operations at six EPR-owned theatre locations nationwide, including AMC Portage Street 10, which closed at the end of business on Sunday, November 8. Any further questions about the future of this location should be directed to EPR Properties.”
The AMC was opened at 180 Portage Street following the closure of the Alamao Drafthouse, which closed its doors in April 2017.
