BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The occupants in all 12 units in one of the buildings at the Williamsburg Apartments on Wagner Drive in Battle Creek were displaced early Monday morning following a fire in one of the units.
Battle Creek fire officials say the fire, which was reported at about 2:00 a.m., was caused by someone using a microwave to reheat food in a foil wrapper.
The fire spread after the initial call and by the time the first unit arrived, there was a working fire on the third floor of the building.
The apartment occupants were evacuated and the fire was called under control within a half hour.
No injuries were reported.
Fire officials say the apartment building occupants will be displaced until repairs are made.
Fire officials remind everyone to do not microwave any metal including a foil wrapper.
