KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Wednesday, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) announced that the license of a nurse has been suspended over allegations of stealing fentanyl.
Alison R. Marshall, R.N. at Bronson Methodist Hospital was served an order summarily suspending her license. According to the department, the complaint alleges that she diverted fentanyl from her workplace and replaced the stolen fentanyl with saline in an effort to conceal her actions.
The order states that the she admitted to stealing the fentanyl eight time between July and August for her personal use.
As a result, the complaint indicates Ms. Marshall put numerous patients at risk of receiving saline instead of fentanyl for pain control.
“Protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public is a priority for our department and in this case, it was important that we take swift action,” LARA Director Orlene Hawks said in a statement.
An order of summary suspension is a temporary measure to protect the public and not a final determination that a licensee has violated the Public Health Code, the department said.
Additionally, the order of suspension states that Marshall was terminated from her position on August 27.
