BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Monday, the City of Battle Creek announced its public transit bus system will offer free rides on November 3, or election day.
Officials say the move is meant to better help those who are choosing to vote in the election in person, rather than absentee.
Both the fixed-route buses and Tele-Transit vans will run for free all day. Bus hours will be the same as usual for a Tuesday, 5:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Election polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If a rider cannot reach their polling place by bus, Transit has added a Tele-Transit shuttle that will provide door-to-door service to specific voting locations. The shuttle will run from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Anyone would like to use this shuttle should call Transit in advance at 269-966-3474, option 2.
For reference, bus routes are 1W West Michigan; 2W Columbia-Territorial; 3E Main-Post; 3W Kendall-Goodale; 4N NE Capital; 4S SW Capital.
The Transit team has created a list of polling places matched to the bus routes that will get riders to the closest stop, within one or two blocks.
