If you head to social media this week you’re likely to find info about bats. The reason – it’s National Bat Week. Kim Winter of the U.S. Forest Service says they’ll be featuring activities anybody can do with a daily theme tied to a social media meme. For example – Motivational Monday, Throwback Thursday you can access at #Bat Week Activities. Here are some things you likely didn’t know about bats. They make up about a quarter of all mammal species…over 950 of the 1300 bat species may become endangered if threats to their survival don’t change…and bats are voracious insect eaters, essential in controlling mosquitos and flies and various agricultural pests…many bats play a role in circulating pollen and the droppings of fruit eating bats often include seeds to propagate plants. These are just a few reasons to go to bat for bats.
