KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two suspects are in custody after a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Kalamazoo.
Just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to a call regarding the shooting in the 600 block of Portage Road.
Upon arrival, officers located an 18 year-old-male suffering from a gun shot wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
KDPS identified two suspects that were responsible for the shooting. Within a few hours of the incident, a 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody in the 200 Block of Reed Street and arrested for his involvement. Police add that a firearm was recovered from this location.
On Sunday afternoon, KDPS was able to locate the second suspect in the 700 Block of West Walnut street. This subject, a 27-year-old male, was arrested, and a second firearm was recovered from this location.
The juvenile male was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on weapons offenses and Felony Assault charges, while the adult male was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on weapons offenses and Felony Assault charges.
Police add that the victim’s condition is stable at this time.
