KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema says he has tested positive for the coronavirus.
On Thursday evening he released a statement saying he’s been experiencing mild symptoms and is self-isolating.
“Fortunately, I’ve been working primarily remotely throughout the pandemic and have not been at the office since Tuesday, Oct. 6. I have been working closely with the Kalamazoo County Health Department and following their guidance and recommendations,” Ritsema said.
The health department is now working to notify anyone who may have been in close contact with Ritsema. City officials say that all of his workspaces have been thoroughly disinfected.
Kalamazoo Mayor David Anderson also released a statement wishing Ritsema a speedy recovery. He added, “Jim Ritsema’s positive COVID-19 test is another reminder to remain vigilant and continue taking the proper precautions to slow the spread of COVID-19 — like wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently and staying home if you don’t feel well.”
Anderson says they will provide updates on his condition when they become available.
