KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A suspect is in custody following two reported robberies that led to a police chase and an eventual crash on Kalamazoo’s Northside.
Around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were called to an armed robbery at a local business in the 3700 block of Sprinkle Road, but the specific store name was not released.
An employee said the suspect entered the store with a weapon, demanded money and merchandise from staff members, and then fled the area in a vehicle.
As KDPS was responding to this incident, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies were also dispatched to a second reported armed robbery at a business in their jurisdiction with the same description of the suspect and the getaway vehicle as the Sprinkle Road robbery. The department did not release the name or location of this business.
A traffic stop was attempted but the suspect took off and led officers on a chase for about 11 miles until the suspect crashed into an unoccupied vehicle in the 700 block of Hawley Street near Cadillac Street.
The driver was arrested and booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail awaiting arraignment charges of fleeing and eluding and armed robbery.
Nobody was injured during this incident.
