Nine months into the phase one agreement with China agriculture purchases are climbing. Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Ted McKinney says numbers through December 31st will be figured into the trade numbers for the first year of the two year trade deal. He says a lot of the activity – some of it record setting – has focused on major commodities such as pork and soybeans. Beef and poultry buys are also on the rise. McKinney says Washington would like to see more fruit and vegetables as well as ethanol sold to Beijing from now through the second year of the agreement.
