PARCHMENT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Tuesday, the Parchment School District announced changes to its open school buildings after three positive COVID-19 cases were detected.
Two cases were detected in Parchment High School with one student and one staff member, along with one staff case at Parchment Middle School.
Officials say those affected are now in isolation, and that their close contacts have been identified, notified, and are in quarantine.
As a result of these cases, both Parchment Middle and High School are going to be closed. Officials say this will give them time to complete full contact tracing and reduce any risks, and that an update on reopening should come by Thursday.
“We made the decision to close these buildings, in collaboration with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department, to ensure that we can fully conduct thorough contact tracing to mitigate transmission risk in our schools,” officials said in a statement. “The health and safety of our students and staff remain our priority.”
All elementary school campuses will remain open at this time.
