GENEVA TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Three people are dead following a two-car crash near the Allegan-Van Buren County line.
It happened around noon Monday at the intersection of Baseline Road and 60th Street, east of South Haven.
Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies say an SUV was traveling eastbound on Baseline Road and was preparing to stop at the intersection when a second passenger car, also traveling eastbound, rear ended the SUV at a high rate of speed.
This caused the two vehicles to roll into another area of parked cars.
The victims include a 46-year-old Illinois man, a 59-year-old woman from Grand Junction, and an 86-year-old woman also from Grand Junction. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation but authorities believe speed was a factor. The names of the victims have not been released.
South Haven Area Emergency Services, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police assisted at the crash scene.
Anyone with more information on this crash should contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office at 269-657-3101.
