WAYLAND TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two people are dead after a car collided with a motorcycle in Allegan County.
It occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on 129th Avenue east of 4th Street in Wayland Township, north of Shelbyville.
Allegan County Sheriff deputies say a driver was traveling eastbound and attempted to turn into a driveway but failed to yield to a motorcycle going westbound.
The motorcyclist, identified as 41-year-old David Rowe II from the Wayland area, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
The passenger in the vehicle, 44-year-old Iaci Botelho-Bosman also from the Wayland area, was taken to a Kalamazoo area hospital but later died from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle was a 47-year-old man. His condition was not released.
Investigators say failure to yield and speed appear to be contributing factors in the fatal crash, but they are still looking into the incident.
Multiple units assisted with this fatal crash including Gun Lake Tribal Police Department, Michigan State Police, Wayland EMS, Wayland Fire Department, Yankee Springs Township Fire Department, West Michigan Air Care, Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office, Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner’s Office and Allegan County Victim Service’s Unit.
No other details have been released at this time.
