THREE RIVERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials with Three Rivers Community Schools announced Tuesday that Park Elementary School will be closed for the next two weeks after two students tested positive for COVID-19.
In a Facebook post, officials said a significant number of staff and students had been in close contact with those who tested positive, making the two-week shutdown a necessary measure.
Park Elementary students and staff will use a backup remote learning plan starting on Thursday, October 8th and continue during the week of October 12.
Officials plan to reopen the building to students on Monday, October 19, while all other school buildings remain open for now.
According to a separate Facebook post, Chromebook laptops were distributed to students Wednesday on a time schedule divided by grade level.
“We are responsible for informing all students, teachers, and staff who are considered ‘close contacts’ according to the CDC guidelines,” officials said in a post. “If your student is required to quarantine because of an exposure we will contact you. If your student does not qualify as a close contact you will not hear from us. As federal law requires we will protect the confidentiality of these students & staff unless there is a reason to inform you of their identity.”
The news of these new cases come as the State of Michigan reported several new cases in schools this week, including the areas of Schoolcraft, Mattawan, and more.
