KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A teen is injured after he was reportedly shot by someone handling a firearm near the Portage area.
It occurred around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 2600 block of Airview Boulevard off of Portage Road not far from the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport.
When Kalamazoo Public Safety officers arrived they located a 17-year-old Kalamazoo resident suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment and his current condition has not been released.
The teen said he was unintentionally shot when a firearm went off nearby while other subjects were handling it. Authorities executed a search warrant at a nearby business and located the firearm they believe was used in the shooting incident. The report did not state if anyone was taken into custody as a result of the shooting.
