HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Helping people get through the continued COVID-19 financial strains remains a priority for lawmakers, according to US Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph.
Obviously the unemployment provision is a key one, and will be part of the next COVID (aid) package,” he told WHTC Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020 (listen to the full interview). “I’m sure that it will.”
He said the bi-partisan Congressional Problem Solvers caucus is working on those details, as well as a way to ensure that people suffering with post-COVID-19-related complications aren’t rejected by health insurance companies.
He’s also talking to state lawmakers about ensuring people get unemployment checks.
“I talked to some of our state legislators yesterday. This — this ought to be, let’s face it, the perfect opportunity,” he said.
He said lawmakers from both sides of the aisle should sit down with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and work out a compromise. He said helping people get through the pandemic is a non-partisan issue.
