BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Monday, the City of Battle Creek announced four positive COVID-19 tests among city staff members.
The infected staff members include three city firefighters, along with a staff member of the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
With these most recent cases, the city confirmed that there have been a total of 14 confirmed cases within the city’s workforce since the beginning of the pandemic.
Officials say the city and the Calhoun County Public Health Department are continuing to work together in assessing the situation, along with identifying close contacts to those who tested positive and ensuring adequate fire staffing. The four individuals who have tested positive are currently recovering at home.
Officials are now reminding Battle Creek citizens to answer their phones and check their messages, as they may see a local or out-of-area phone number from health staff. These calls are being made as part of the contact tracing process with help from the State of Michigan, and may contain information of possible COVID-19 exposure.
In light of these new cases, city officials say additional cleaning is taking place at the affected city facilities.
