MATTAWAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two people are in custody after an illegal narcotics investigation turned up a gun and drugs in Mattawan.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit witnessed drug transactions taking place at a gas station in the Mattawan area around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, but the specific location of the crime was not released due to the sensitivity of the case.
Detectives walked up to a vehicle with three people inside and noticed that the man was carrying a loaded semi automatic 9MM handgun. The 27-year-old man from Mattawan was detained and admitted to also having morphine pills and meth inside of the vehicle. He was arrested for possession of meth and carrying a concealed weapon. Additional charges are also being sought.
Authorities continued searching the vehicle and found a large amount of meth inside a woman’s purse who was sitting in the front passenger seat. The 32-year-old Mattawan woman confessed and was arrested for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.
The third woman inside of the vehicle was released without charges. Both suspects were taken to the Van Buren County Jail.
