KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man has been arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred in Kalamazoo Township last week.
Just before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Lum Avenue for a report of a shooting victim.
Upon arrival, officers located a 26-year-old male victim who had been shot in the abdomen. He was transported to Borgess hospital, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The suspect was identified by the victim and witnesses as James Alan Cantrell, a 26-year-old Battle Creek man. On Tuesday, the Kalamazoo County Prosecutors Office issued a two count felony warrant for Cantrell:
- Count 1 – Assault with intent to murder, which carries a possible life sentence and
- Count 2 – Felony firearm, which carries a mandatory two year sentence.
James Cantrell turned himself in to the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department on Tuesday and was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail. Cantrell was arraigned by the 8th District Court and given a bond set at $250,000 cash or surety.
The case remains under investigation at this time.
