KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials with Bronson Hospital are reporting that the annual Bronson Children’s Hospital Run & Walk raised nearly $168,000 in support this weekend.
The event, which concluded on Sunday, took place over a ten-day period, and included many opportunities for runners and walkers to engage through social media.
The virtual run raised more funds than officials were expecting, despite moving to a virtual format under the COVID-19 pandemic this year.
“We are so grateful to the community, near and far, who participated even though we couldn’t all be together in one place this year,” vice president of development at Bronson Healthcare Terry Morrow said in a statement. “Participants shared so many wonderful photos with us of as they took part in the event in their own creative ways. It was inspiring to see that the true spirit of the annual Run & Walk and the connectedness that we share in support of our young patients still shined through.”
This was the thirteenth installment of the race, officials added. Funds raised will be used to support child life services, art and music therapy, technology upgrades and other features to enhance care for hospitalized children.
In addition to registration fees, officials say funds were raised through donations and sponsorships from businesses throughout the area, such as sponsor Mall City Mechanical.
