COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two Adrian residents along with a teenage girl were taken into custody on Saturday as police authorities from several agencies conducted an investigation into the smuggling of drugs into the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater.
The Michigan State Police worked with the Department of Corrections, the drug enforcement team S.W.E.T., the State Police Aviation unit, State Police Canine, the D.N.R. and the Branch County Sheriff’s Department Canine officers.
The Department of Corrections uncovered a plot to smuggle drugs into the prison on Saturday.
They alerted the Michigan State Police in Marshall and requested assistance.
An investigation was started and officers were in the area actively looking for the suspects with the assistance of Canine officers and a State Police drone.
A 33-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man from Adrian were taken into custody along with the 15-year-old daughter of the female.
The adults were lodged in the Branch County jail on multiple felony charges.
Charges will be requested for the juvenile’s role through Family Court.
The juvenile has been turned over to a family member. Child Protective Services were contacted and made aware of the situation.
