ARLINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A wanted fugitive out of Kalamazoo County is now in custody after he barricaded himself inside of a home in Van Buren County.
Van Buren County Sheriff deputies were called to the 28000 block of County Road 215 near 54th Street in Arlington Township, north of Lawrence, just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to look for a suspect who was wanted on outstanding felony warrants out of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
When authorities arrived they located the man outside of the home but he quickly ran into the house and barricaded himself in a bedroom while he was armed with a shotgun.
Deputies were able to speak with the suspect while he was inside the bedroom and the SWAT team was called in due to the nature of the investigation.
After a short standoff, the suspect surrendered without further incident and the shotgun was seized. The 28-year-old man from Bangor was taken into custody and then turned over to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office as he awaits arraignment on the outstanding warrants.
