KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Township Police say a domestic assault investigation led to the suspect barricading himself inside of a home and then attempting to set it on fire.
Authorities were called to the 1400 block of Red Maple Lane at the Hillcrest Acres mobile home park off of Douglas Avenue around 8 p.m. Wednesday. They made contact with the 29-year-old suspect at his residence, but the man retreated back into his home and barricaded the door.
As the responding officers were attempting to negotiate with the suspect they noticed smoke and flames coming from the window and saw the man lighting the home on fire.
The Kalamazoo Township Fire Department arrived on scene, authorities made entry into the burning home, and the suspect was removed and taken to a local
hospital for smoke inhalation.
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office is now reviewing the case, which remains under investigation.
