SPRINGFIELD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a home invasion that took place Tuesday morning.
Around 9:30 a.m., Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to an address in the 700 block of Avenue A. Dispatch reported that someone had called 911 reporting a man with a gun entering a residence and assaulting two females.
Deputies responded to the area and were able to locate several witnesses, but the suspect had fled the area.
Deputies were able to determine that the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims forced his way into the home and was armed with a pistol. Upon entering the residence, he pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at both females as they exchanged words.
The male, a 32 year old white man with ties to the Allegan, Barry and Calhoun areas, then fled from the scene.
An area canvas was conducted to search for the suspect, who is still at large. Two area schools were briefly locked down as officers checked the area, although it is believed that the male left the area in a stolen vehicle.
Deputies are searching for an early 2000 white Ford F-150 with a white cap in the back and black rims. A warrant request will be submitted to the Calhoun County Prosecutors Office for charges on the male as Deputies continue to search for him.
There is not believed to be a danger to the community, as the suspect was targeting one of the females involved.
Anyone with information on the suspect should contact the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 269-781-0880 and ask for detectives, or call Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by Battle Creek Police Department and the Michigan State Police.
