CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is reporting two different crashes that occurred on Sunday and early Monday morning.
The first crash happened Sunday around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Decatur Road and Quaker Street in Penn Township.
Police say a vehicle driven by Richard Partridge of Cassopolis attempted to turn south on Decatur Road from Quaker Street and failed to yield the right of way to a northbound vehicle, which was driven by Harold Laird of Kalamazoo.
Patridge was not injured in this crash, but Laird and his passenger, Alexandria Lynch of Midland, sustained minor injuries. They were both transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police say that all who were involved in this crash were wearing seat belts and that alcohol was not a factor. This crash is still under investigation.
Then, Cass County deputies reported another crash that happened early Monday morning in Milton Township.
Just after 7 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Redfield Road and Gumwood Street. Matthew Cates of Stevensville had been driving when he failed to stop at a stop sign. As a result, he crashed into a tree. Police say that he hadn’t seen the sign due to fog conditions.
Cates sustained minor injuries and was also transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital. He had been wearing a seat belt, and alcohol was not a factor.
This crash in Milton Township is only the latest to occur in that area this year. Last week, two drivers were injured in a crash that occurred on US-12 near Worrell Street in Milton Township.
Prior to that, a fatal crash had occurred last month on US-12 at the M-60 interchange. Other incidents involving a fatal motorcycle crash and a hit-and-run have also been reported.
