PLAINWELL, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Allegan County Health Department (ACHD) is partnering with the Michigan National Guard to offer a free drive-thru testing event in Plainwell this week.
The event will take place on Thursday, September 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kenyon Park, located at 929 Lincoln Parkway in Plainwell.
COVID-19 testing (not an antibody test) is available to individuals of any age, regardless of symptoms. Individuals under the age of 18 will need parental or guardian consent.
Participants do not have to bring a lab order to be tested. An interpreter will be on site and available as needed.
The Michigan National Guard announced Tuesday that it has more than 20 trained testing teams ready to assist with community COVID-19 testing events.
These three-member teams include a certified medic to conduct the testing and two members to assist with paperwork, logistics and non-medical tasks. All team members from the Michigan National Guard have tested negative for COVID-19 and have been following strict medical protocols.
“Members of the Michigan National Guard, in partnering with the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as local health departments, continue to be a vital part of our state’s response to COVID-19 by testing thousands of people in communities across the state and distributing tens of thousands of pounds of food at community food banks,” Maj. Gen. Paul Rogers, Adjutant General and Director of the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, said in a statement. “COVID-19 is still a very real threat to our state and we must all remain disciplined in our adherence to guidance from public health officials as we strive to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities from this disease.”
In the event of severe weather, ACHD will cancel testing events for the protection of staff and residents. Participants should check the Facebook page for any event cancellation notices the day of the event.
Anyone who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, or shortness of breath, should seek testing. Those working with the public, living in congregate living facilities or have potentially been exposed should also get tested.
