BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) – A Marshall man is dead and three officers are on paid administrative leave following an incident involving a shooting and a high-speed chase in Battle Creek early Saturday morning.
Officers began pursuing a driver who was driving erratically on Dickman Rd near M-66 at around 12:15 am.
The vehicle did not stop, and led officers on a high-speed pursuit down M-66 and then onto westbound I 94.
The vehicle then headed on Logistics Rd, where he crashed in the woods.
As officers approached the car on foot, the driver suddenly began driving toward the officers, who then fired at him.
The vehicle then hit a BCPD car and crashed again in the woods.
The driver, a 22-year-old Marshall man, received first aid at the scene but died.
It is not known if the man was struck by any of the shots that were fired.
