KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two people are in custody after police recovered two firearms during an investigation in downtown Kalamazoo.
Public Safety officers were monitoring the 400 block of West Michigan Avenue near South Park Street around 2:30 a.m. Thursday to address a recent crowd and weapon violation concerns.
Authorities conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle leaving the area and they located a concealed weapon and illegal narcotics. A 43-year-old Kalamazoo man was arrested during this incident.
Then, about 20 minutes later, officers were monitoring the Shell gas station parking lot near South Westnedge Avenue when another unrelated subject was seen exiting a vehicle with a concealed firearm.
KDPS moved in and, after resisting arrest, the 26-year-old Battle Creek resident was taken into custody. A loaded firearm with an extended magazine was recovered during that incident.
Both suspects are in the Kalamazoo County Jail for multiple weapon and drug related charges.
