Construction worker dies in Allegan County trench collapse; victim identified

CASCO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) announced Wednesday that a construction worker has died in a trench collapse.

Officials say that the work was for a home building project on Lakeshore Drive in Casco Township.

At the time of the collapse, around 9:30 a.m., the worker, identified as Vincent Edward Rasmus, was working on underground utilities at the new site approximately 12 feet below the surface.

Workers on scene were able to extricate Rasmus prior to EMS arrival, but he ultimately  succumbed to his injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the Allegan Sheriff Department.
